How to: Root your Canadian Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini I257M

Canadian Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini I257M can now be rooted with no massive effort. You will definitely want to gain root access to the system partition of your device in case you are interested in unchaining your handset from its factory settings, thus getting permission to install any customization that might suit you. Read this post carefully and don't skip any of the instructions below.

  • You will need to install the "Samsung USB Drivers" on your computer, if you have not done so already. The drivers can be easily installed after downloading them from here[1].
  • You are not required to reset your S4 Mini to the factory settings. However, you might still have to do it in case the S4 Mini I257M won't boot after the rooting process. efore starting the process, make sure you create a backup of all your important data stored on your device's internal memory. I personally use the "Helium[2]" backup tool, but you can use any other similar application such as "My Backup PRO[3]".
  • Any security system and Samsung KIES have to be disabled from your computer before you proceed with the rooting process. This kind of applications, usually prevent ODIN (the app used to flash the rooting files) from operating smoothly.
  • Access your handset's "Developer options" menu and enable the "USB debugging" option.
  • You should be aware that rooting your phone will make you lose the warranty, due to the fact that the binary flash counter will be increased.
  • In order to perform this operation, you have to make sure that your device's battery level is higher than 50%. If the device will turn off during the process, as a result of low battery level, you will be forced to repeat the process from the beginning.

  1. Download Chainfire's rooting package from here[4] and extract its content.
  2. In this process you will also need the "Odin 3.07" tool that can be downloaded from here[5]. Extract its content and save it into a single folder.
  3. Turn off your smartphone and boot it into "Download Mode[6]".
  4. Go to your computer and launch the "Odin.exe" application.
  5. Use an USB cable to connect your Galaxy S4 to the PC and look for the "Added!!" message, in Odin.

If everything went well so far, you should click the "PDA" button in Odin.
  6. Browse your device for the ".tar.md5″ file and load it into ODIN. Make sure that the "Re-Partition" box is not checked.
  7. If you're ready to start the rooting process, then press the "START" button. Sit back and relax, because the process should last for about 5 minutes. Try not to touch anything during this time.
