Once you have updated your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 to the latest Android KitKat version, the access to the system partition of your handset, in case you had one, it has been voided. For the users that are interested in further customizing their handset and have more features available, then they can follow this tutorial to learn how to gain root access on their updated Note 2. Read carefully the instructions and the guidelines below.
- A computer will be required during the installation. To be able to connect your handset to the PC, you will need a compatible USB cable. Also, you should install the Samsung USB drivers[1] on the computer you are planning to use.
- Disable any antivirus/ antimalware software on both your computer and your phone. Also, from the "Developer Options" menu, enable the "USB Debugging" option. These two actions will ensure a smooth connection that is less prone to interruptions.
- In case something goes wrong during the rooting process, you will be forced to perform a "Factory reset" procedure on your Note 2. This means that all your personal data and applications, stored on your handset, will be permanently deleted. To prevent this unpleasant situation, I strongly recommend you to use a backup tool, like "Titanium Backup Pro[2]", and save your most important files.
- Charge the battery of your device for more than 60%. This will allow you to prevent your device from turning off during the installation procedure. Any unexpected shutdown during the installation process, caused by lack of power, can permanently damage your handset.
